Businessman Ghanshyam Dalmia faces Income Tax evasion allegations

Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: For the second consecutive day, Income-Tax authorities are persistently conducting raids across 10 locations in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, targeting the residences, offices, and business establishments of Ghanshyam Dalmia, also known as Bunty Dalmia, a businessman turned industrialist. The ongoing investigation accuses Dalmia of evading income tax returns.
Ghanshyam Dalmia's expansive business empire spans Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Mumbai, encompassing diverse sectors such as coal mining, steel manufacturing, sponge iron production, hotels, and more.
The targeted locations in this extensive search operation include houses, business establishments, and offices belonging to Dalmia and his brothers, Bablu and Jogesh, located in Rourkela, Sundargarh town, and Barpali in Odisha, as well as Raigarh, Raipur in Chhattisgarh, and Bilaspur in Madhya Pradesh.
Dalmia's business interests are not confined to the states under investigation, as he also has establishments in Mumbai. The entrepreneur is involved in various sectors, including coal trading, along with owning hotels and industries.
During the raid at Dalmia's office in the Gopalpur locality of Sundargarh, some of his staff members attempted to evade authorities by jumping a wire fence. A manhunt has been initiated to apprehend these individuals.
A total of ten teams from the Income-Tax Department are actively involved in the raids. The searches cover Dalmia's two-story residential building in Gopalpur, Sundargarh, office premises, showroom, sponge iron factory, MCL coal shipping site at Burpali in Odisha, Raigarh Iron, Steel & Power plant factory in Chhattisgarh, residence, and office in Raipur, along with a hotel in Bilaspur. The investigation continues to unfold as authorities delve into the financial affairs of the businessman and his associates.
