Bird census extends beyond Chilika to multiple Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: Following the completion of the migratory bird census at Chilika, Odisha, the survey extended to various regions on Wednesday morning. Avian counting is currently in progress in Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Koraput, and Puri districts.
In Mayurbhanj, the bird census is underway in Similipal, spanning over 100 locations within the district. The survey covers reservoirs and wetlands under Baripada, Karanjia, and Rairangpur forest ranges.
Over 150 employees from the Forest Department are actively participating in the census, scheduled to continue until Thursday in areas like Bentati, Udala, Dewali, Bangiriposhi, among others. In addition to Forest Department staff, students from the Wildlife Department at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) and Maharaja Sriramchandra Bhanjdeo University are contributing to the census efforts.
Simultaneously, bird census activities have commenced at Brahmagiri forest division near Chilika Lake, Bonai forest division, and Koraput. Teams equipped with binoculars, two-way radios, global positioning system (GPS) sets, and other tools have been assigned specific areas to conduct the census.
Puri district witnesses census operations in five ranges, while Rairakhol and Daspalla in Nayagarh district involve six ranges. In Koraput, the census covers 23 locations, including Dasamantapur, Narayanpatna, Baghra, Ranigarh, Kolab, Kechala, and Dangarmaliguda.
