Sundargarh, Jan 10: On Wednesday morning, Badgaon police discovered the body of a minor girl suspended from a tree in a forest near Kustuna village in Sundargarh district, Odisha.

The victim, hailing from Itma village under Badgaon police limits, had been missing since Tuesday. Concerned about her absence, family members filed a missing person report with the police. The grim discovery was made by local villagers who spotted the girl's body hanging from a tree on the outskirts of Kustuna and promptly alerted the authorities.

In connection with the incident, one person has been detained by the police, while a search is underway for two others suspected of involvement in the rape and murder of the girl.

According to reports, the detained individual admitted to the police that he and two companions took the girl to the nearby Kustuna forest, where they subjected her to rape in turns. Subsequently, they strangled her to death and staged the scene to appear as a suicide by hanging her from a tree.

Badgaon police have initiated a thorough investigation into the case.
