Three arrested for killing liquor vendor in Odisha's Koraput

Koraput, Jan 9: On Monday, three individuals, including two minors, were apprehended and remanded to custody for their alleged involvement in the murder of a liquor vendor. The gruesome incident, which transpired in the Dhubli area under Borigumma police jurisdiction in Odisha's Koraput district on December 30, was brought to light on Monday.
The victim, identified as Umesh Yadav, hailing from Bihar, was reportedly killed after refusing to provide 20 sachets of country liquor free of charge to the accused.
According to accounts, the trio visited Yadav's country liquor outlet in Borigumma, demanding the requested liquor sachets on the ill-fated day. Upon Yadav's refusal, the accused assaulted him with wooden sticks, resulting in his immediate death. Following the crime, the perpetrators attempted to stage the incident as a suicide.
The three individuals then bound Yadav's body with a rope, attached heavy stones, and disposed of it in a well located approximately 100 meters from the liquor outlet. Subsequently, the accused absconded from the area after pilfering Yadav's money, mobile phone, and motorcycle.
Borigumma SDPO Shubhdendu Kumar Sabhar informed the media on Tuesday that the police were led to the accused by tracing the stolen bike and mobile phone of the deceased. One of the identified culprits is Ajay Harijan.
