Second fatality in Hi-Tech Hospital identity debacle

Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: In the midst of the identity confusion at Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital, a patient initially registered as Jyoti Ranjan but later revealing himself as Dilip Samantray, passed away during treatment late Friday night.
Hospital authorities have officially confirmed the demise of the patient. The individual, who ultimately identified as Dilip, had been admitted under the name Jyoti Ranjan Mallik and was in critical condition.
On Friday, he was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and asserted his true identity as Dilip. The family of Jyoti, unaware of the switch, experienced profound grief when the man they believed to be Jyoti declared himself as Dilip.
This incident echoes a previous case where another individual, erroneously identified as Dilip, had passed away the week before. His family, under the mistaken identity, performed the last rites after receiving the body from the police. Tragically, Dilip's wife took her own life a day after the death of the man she believed to be her husband.
The unfolding situation led to chaos on Friday, as Jyoti Ranjan's family and relatives protested at the hospital, demanding clarity on the fate of their son, whether dead or alive.
