Senior doctor nabbed for falsifying caste identity in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Dec 28: A senior doctor in Odisha's Koraput district, identified as Durgadatta Sasani, has been apprehended by the Koraput Police on charges of securing employment at MKCG Medical College & Hospital, Berhampur in Ganjam district through the submission of a fraudulent caste certificate.
Residing in Samabaya Colony in Semiliguda, a tribal-dominated area of Koraput, Durgadatta currently serves as an assistant professor in the anaesthesiology department at MKCG Medical College in Berhampur. The arrest took place on Wednesday following a case registered on July 20, 2023, based on a complaint filed by his younger brother.
The complainant alleges that Durgadatta, originally belonging to the Brahmin caste, pursued his arts graduation as a general category student and completed a D Pharma course in Bhubaneswar under the same category. The complaint further asserts that Durgadatta obtained a falsified certificate, misrepresenting himself as an Adivasi, enabling his admission to the MBBS course in 2006 and a three-year specialization course in 2014 at MKCG Medical College.
Since 2021, he has reportedly been serving as an assistant professor in the anaesthesiology department at the medical college. The complaint suggests that in 2003, the accused acquired a fabricated caste certificate under the surname Jani, claiming to be the son of a person from Mandarguda village belonging to the scheduled tribe.
Local police officials state that Durgadatta later pursued Class-X through distance education and a +2 regular course in the science stream at BJB College in Bhubaneswar, using the fake certificate for the admissions process.
