Eight apprehended after youth attacked in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Dec 25: Amid heightened security for Christmas Eve celebrations in the capital city of Bhubaneswar on Sunday, a disturbing incident unfolded as a gang of assailants pursued and brutally attacked a young man near the Airport Traffic Square. The victim, identified as Madan Maharana, also known as Shiva, sustained severe injuries to his head, chest, and other body parts in the assault.
Maharana is currently receiving medical treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH). Early on Monday, the police apprehended eight suspects believed to be involved in the attack from two locations in Bhubaneswar. Authorities continue their efforts to apprehend the remaining culprits.
According to eyewitness accounts, around 9:30 pm the previous day, a group of approximately 30 miscreants pursued and assaulted Maharana after a heated argument near the Airport Traffic Square. Shockingly, bystanders could only watch as the violent incident unfolded. Another individual, Rakesh Guru, alias Raka, who was present with Shiva during the altercation, managed to escape unharmed.
Locals intervened to rescue Maharana, who was initially taken to Capital Hospital and later transferred to SCBMCH due to the deterioration of his condition.
The police suspect that the attack stemmed from an old feud, noting that both Shiva and Raka have multiple cases registered against them at various police stations. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
