IT raids on liquor manufacturing unit in Dhenkanal district

Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: In the wake of a substantial cash seizure from a distillery group affiliated with Congress MP Dhiraj Sahu's family, officials from the Income Tax department have conducted a raid at a liquor manufacturing unit in Odisha's Dhenkanal district.
Preliminary reports indicate that two teams of Income Tax officials initiated the raid at Shakti Maltier and Lemonade Pvt Ltd in Machhia village, falling under the jurisdiction of Tumusinga police station, starting Friday. The establishment is purportedly owned by businessman Bikram Kishore Sahoo.
Operating since 2012, the company holds authorization for blending, bottling, distribution, and selling of liquor and beverages. The owner, Sahoo, reportedly manages six liquor shops in Dhenkanal, procuring spirits for his business from Boudh Distillery.
The Income Tax Department's intervention comes in response to allegations of tax evasion against the liquor firm. The ongoing raid seeks to investigate and address potential irregularities in the financial dealings of Shakti Maltier and Lemonade Pvt Ltd.
