Odisha CM approves construction of 7 multi-purpose cyclone shelters in Puri district

Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has greenlit a proposal for the construction of seven multi-purpose cyclone shelters in seven gram panchayats spanning four blocks within Puri district. The decision follows a district visit by VK Pandian, the chairman of the 5T initiative, during which the public voiced the need for cyclone shelters in various panchayats within Puri.
In response to the community's proposal, the Chief Minister has approved the construction of multipurpose cyclone shelters in specific locations. The identified gram panchayats include Chapamanika, Rebana-Nuagaon, and Bada Diandi in the Brahmagiri Block, Nuapada and Badanala in the Krushnaprasad Block, Bijipur in the Kanas Block, and Raigorada in the Puri Sadar Block.
A budget of Rs 14 crore has been allocated for the construction of these shelters. The cyclone shelters aim to provide significant relief to the residents of vulnerable areas within Puri district, including Budhasahi, Rebana-Nuagaon, Bada Diandi, Janhikuda, Kholikmuhan, Balinasi, Nandigoda, and Raigorada.
Given Puri district's susceptibility to cyclones due to its coastal location along the Bay of Bengal, the Chief Minister has instructed the district administration to identify suitable locations for constructing shelters in other areas within the district.
