Daughter-in-law arrested after elderly woman killed over bed light in Cuttack
Cuttack, De 10: Barang police have successfully solved the murder case of Suchitra Bala Sahu in Madhupur, leading to the arrest of her daughter-in-law, Saraswati.
Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime—an iron rod employed in the murder—and the accused's dress, stained with blood.
As per police reports, Saraswati allegedly murdered her mother-in-law, Suchitra Bala Sahu, by striking her with an iron rod while she was asleep.
"The heinous act occurred on the night of December 5. Both Suchitra Bala and her daughter-in-law Saraswati shared a room. Due to Saraswati's pregnancy, Suchitra Bala instructed her not to turn off the lights and requested her to change her attire before bedtime. Disputes arose between the two over these instructions. Utilizing an iron rod kept by Suchitra Bala for self-defense, the accused daughter-in-law struck her on the head, leading to her tragic demise," informed Anil Mishra, Addl. DCP, during a press briefing.
Mishra further disclosed that the accused informed her father-in-law in the morning, alleging that someone else had killed her mother-in-law, and then concealed the iron rod and blood-soaked dress.
"Following thorough interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime, leading the police to the location where she had hidden the iron rod and the blood-soaked dress. Both items were subsequently seized by the police," Mishra added.
