Customs enlists Vietnamese interpreters for interrogation in Rs 220 crore Paradip cocaine seizure case

Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: Vietnamese interpreters have been enlisted to aid in the questioning of the crew members involved in the confiscation of cocaine valued at Rs 220 crore from a cargo ship anchored at Paradip port in Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district.
Sources report that the Customs department has engaged two interpreters from Vietnam to facilitate effective communication during the interrogation of the 22 crew members in their native language.
Notably, Customs officials investigating the cocaine seizure from the Denmark-bound cargo ship on December 1 faced challenges in establishing crucial international drug cartel connections due to the language barrier.
The 22 crew members, all hailing from Vietnam, have been detained, and efforts are underway to determine the origin of the prohibited substance seized from the vessel. However, progress in the investigation has been limited, as the detained crews, now in the custody of Customs, exclusively communicate in Vietnamese.
