Balasore, Dec 6: In a harrowing incident in Berhampur town of Odisha’s Balasore district, a woman, identified as Lakshmi Murmu, is fighting for her life after intruders forcibly entered her residence late last night and shot her. The distressing event unfolded in the Nilgiri area under Berhampur police limits.

Late on Tuesday night, two assailants forcefully entered Lakshmi's home, targeting her while she was asleep in her room. Suffering from gunshot wounds in her waist, abdomen, and hand, Lakshmi was swiftly taken to Nilgiris Hospital for immediate medical attention. Due to the severity of her condition, she was subsequently transferred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where her status is described as critical.

Lakshmi's husband, Rasik Murmu, recounted witnessing two individuals fleeing their residence in the darkness but was unable to identify them. The motive behind the assault remains unknown at this point. Berhampur police, informed of the situation, promptly responded to the scene and commenced an inquiry.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, with ongoing efforts to apprehend the individuals responsible, as stated by the police.
