Tragedy strikes as school student drowns, another missing in Koel river incident

Rourkela, Dec 2: In a heartbreaking incident on Saturday in Odisha's Sundargarh district, a school student lost his life, and another went missing while bathing in the Koel River.
The victims, Priyanshu Bhol, an eighth-grade student, and Ranjan Padhy, a ninth-grade student, were enrolled in an English medium school in Basanti Colony, Rourkela. Residing in a labor tenement in the city, they, along with two companions, ventured to the river near a railway bridge at Pradhanpali after completing their classes for the day.
During their bath, Priyanshu and Ranjan accidentally slipped into the river's deep waters. As they struggled and called for help, their companions urgently sought assistance from the locals. However, by the time the community reached the river, both boys had vanished.
Upon receiving the information, a team comprising police and fire personnel promptly arrived at the scene and initiated a search operation. After scouring the river for over an hour, they located Priyanshu's lifeless body and brought it ashore. Regrettably, Ranjan remained missing at the time of reporting.
