Cyclonic storm 'Midhili' gains strength, set to make landfall near Bangladesh

Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The deep depression observed over the northwest Bay of Bengal has progressed in a north-northeast direction at a speed of 20 kmph over the past six hours, gaining strength and evolving into the cyclonic storm named "Midhili."
As of 0530 hours IST on Friday, it is centered over the Northwest Bay of Bengal near latitude 20.1°N and longitude 88.5°E. This places it approximately 190 km east of Paradip (Odisha), 200 km south-southeast of Digha (West Bengal), and 220 km southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD predicts its continued trajectory in a north-northeast direction, forecasting its landfall near Khepupara on the coast of Bangladesh. The cyclonic storm is expected to reach a wind speed of 60-70 kmph, with gusts up to 80 kmph, during Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday.
In response to the cyclonic storm, a yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur.
