Odisha Assembly to elect new Deputy Speaker on Nov 21

Bhubaneswar, Nov 14: The election for the Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Assembly is scheduled for November 21, as confirmed by the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly in a notification sent to all House members. The election is slated to commence at 9:30 am on the specified day.
The vacancy arose following the resignation of Rajanikant Singh from the position on November 8. Singh tendered his resignation citing personal reasons and submitted the letter to Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik.
Clarifying his decision, Singh mentioned that the Deputy Speaker's role is a constitutional one, which hindered his active participation in party engagements. He emphasized that his resignation was a pending decision aimed at facilitating his involvement in upcoming actions, strengthening the party's organizational structure, and connecting with the populace.
Singh had assumed the role of Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Assembly in June 2019.
