Low-pressure over BoB to intensify into depression, Odisha braces for rainfall

Bhubaneswar, Nov 14: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a possible escalation of the current low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal into a depression and potentially intensifying further into a deep depression.
According to the IMD's bulletin, a Low-Pressure Area has originated over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighboring Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This system is anticipated to progress west-northwestwards and strengthen, potentially evolving into a Depression over Westcentral Bay of Bengal by November 15. It is then expected to continue its trajectory northwestwards and could intensify into a Deep Depression off the Andhra Pradesh coast by November 16. Subsequently, it might change direction to a north-northeastwards course, reaching the Northwest Bay of Bengal near the Odisha coast by November 17.
The IMD has issued warnings for wind and rainfall associated with this weather system for Odisha.
Wind Warning for the Odisha coast: Squally wind speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected during the evening of November 15. These speeds may gradually escalate, reaching 45-55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph, by the morning of November 16 and intensifying further to 50-60 kmph, gusting up to 70 kmph, by the evening of November 16 for the subsequent 24 hours.
Rainfall Warning: On November 16, heavy to very heavy rainfall is highly likely in one or two places across districts like Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, and Puri. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in one or two places within districts like Ganjam, Khurda, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Nayagarh.
Furthermore, on November 17, heavy rainfall is anticipated in one or two places across Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, and Kendrapara districts.
