Bhubaneswar, Nov 3: In a major breakthrough, Khordha district police have busted an inter-district burglary gang with the arrest of 12 persons, including 11 alleged burglars and one receiver of stolen property. Police have recovered approximately 500 grams of gold ornaments and 11 kg of silver ornaments from their possession.
According to a police press note, the arrests have led to the detection of 15 burglary cases reported over the past two years across four police station areas in Khordha district and one in neighbouring Nayagarh district.
The gang was allegedly involved in targeting jewellery shops and residential premises. In one recent incident, burglars broke into a house in Tangi during the night of September 13–14 and decamped with gold and silver ornaments along with cash. In another major burglary, the miscreants broke through a 10-inch-thick rear wall of a jewellery shop in Banapur during the night of October 27–28, stealing Rs 5 lakh in cash, around 400 grams of gold ornaments and 13 kg of silver articles.
Following repeated incidents in Tangi, Nachuni, Banapur and Balugaon, special teams were constituted under the direction of Khordha SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas and supervision of Balugaon SDPO Sanjaya Kumar Pattnaik.
Through coordinated raids, intelligence gathering and analysis of the gang's modus operandi, police apprehended the accused from different locations. The arrested persons belong to Khordha, Ganjam and Puri districts.
The cases were registered at Tangi, Nachuni, Banapur and Balugaon police stations in Khordha and Chandapur police station in Nayagarh. Police said the breakthrough is expected to strengthen public confidence, particularly among jewellery traders and local residents.
