Rare birth: Baby with two heads born at MKCG Medical College in Berhampur
Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: In an extremely rare medical case, a woman from Kandhamal district has reportedly given birth to a baby with two heads at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, Odisha.
According to reports, the newborn has one body and one heart but two heads. The baby is currently admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the medical college, where doctors are providing treatment and closely monitoring the infant’s condition.
Medical experts have reportedly identified the condition as craniopagus parasiticus, an exceptionally rare congenital anomaly involving an additional head attached to another individual’s head. However, the precise diagnosis and details of the newborn’s anatomy would need confirmation from the treating medical team.
Doctors and healthcare staff are keeping the baby under continuous observation at the hospital’s advanced neonatal care facility. Vital parameters, including respiration and heart rate, are being monitored closely to assess the newborn’s condition and determine the appropriate course of treatment.
The rare birth has drawn attention because of the complexity of the reported condition, which requires specialised medical assessment and care. The baby’s immediate health status and future treatment options will depend on detailed clinical evaluation by the medical team.
Further information regarding the mother’s condition, the newborn’s prognosis and the doctors’ assessment is awaited. The hospital has not been quoted as providing additional details about the case.
