IMD reports further southwest monsoon withdrawal from Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: The Southwest Monsoon has withdrawn from additional parts of Odisha as of October 12, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said in its latest update issued on Tuesday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has completely withdrawn from 10 districts of the state, including Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
The weather system has also retreated from most parts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Boudh and Kandhamal districts. In addition, withdrawal has been recorded from some parts of Dhenkanal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
The IMD stated that the current line of withdrawal of the Southwest Monsoon passes through 27.0°N/90.5°E, Dhubri, Kolkata, Angul, Khammam, Honavar and 14.0°N/73.0°E.
The department further indicated that meteorological conditions are becoming favourable for the monsoon to withdraw from the remaining parts of the country over the next two to three days.
During the same period, conditions are also expected to support the commencement of Northeast Monsoon rainfall over the southern peninsula.
The gradual withdrawal marks the seasonal transition from the Southwest Monsoon, which brings widespread rainfall across much of India, towards the next phase of seasonal weather activity. The IMD will continue to monitor the progress of the withdrawal and issue further updates as conditions evolve.
