Odisha Vigilance arrests three more in Rs 9.24-crore fund misappropriation case
Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested three more government employees in connection with the alleged misappropriation of over Rs 9.24 crore at the office of the Superintending Engineer, Roads and Buildings (R&B) Division-I, Bhubaneswar.
The arrested persons have been identified as Krushna Chandra Behera, Senior Accountant at the District Treasury Office, Bhubaneswar; Biswanath Das, Senior Assistant at the R&B Division, Puri; and Kumud Sahoo, Peon at R&B Division-I, Bhubaneswar. They were produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance, in Bhubaneswar.
The case involves the alleged misappropriation of Rs 9,24,10,193. Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station Case No. 21/2026 has been registered under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Earlier, on September 27, six accused, including Section Officer Banalata Mohanty and Junior Assistant Bibhudutta Nayak, were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
According to the investigation, Nayak allegedly transferred Rs 3.90 lakh to Behera through 11 PhonePe transactions between March 2025 and July 2026 to facilitate the clearance of allegedly fraudulent bills.
Das allegedly provided bank account details belonging to himself, his mother and a relative to receive misappropriated funds. Vigilance investigators said substantial amounts were credited to these accounts, with some allegedly transferred to other accused and the remainder withdrawn in cash.
The investigation is continuing.
