Low pressure area likely over Bay of Bengal around October 13: IMD
Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: A cyclonic circulation currently persisting over the Strait of Malacca is likely to move into the Andaman Sea region by October 11, potentially leading to the formation of a low pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
According to the latest weather bulletin, the cyclonic circulation, which was previously located over the Gulf of Thailand and adjoining areas, continues to remain active over the Strait of Malacca. The system extends up to 9.4 kilometres above mean sea level.
The IMD has indicated that the system is likely to progress towards the Andaman Sea over the next day. Under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13.
Meteorologists are closely monitoring the system to assess its movement and further development. The IMD said additional information regarding the system’s evolution and any possible intensification would be provided in subsequent weather bulletins.
The anticipated low pressure formation comes amid changing weather conditions over the Bay of Bengal. However, the system’s eventual strength, direction and possible impact on coastal regions will depend on its development in the coming days.
No specific warning related to the system’s potential impact has been indicated in the information currently available. Residents and fishing communities are advised to follow official IMD updates for the latest forecasts and weather advisories.
The weather department will continue tracking the circulation as it moves towards the Andaman Sea and the southeast Bay of Bengal.
