500 EMRS students march 10 km to protest mismanagement in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj
Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Around 500 students of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Shyamsundarpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district staged a protest on Saturday, alleging severe mismanagement and irregularities at their institution.
Carrying placards and raising concerns over various problems at the residential school, the students walked nearly 10 kilometres from Shyamsundarpur to the Bangiriposi block office to draw the administration’s attention to their grievances.
According to the protesting students, they had repeatedly brought the issues to the notice of the school authorities. However, they alleged that no effective steps had been taken to address their concerns, leading to growing frustration and resentment among them.
The students said their march would cover a total distance of around 50 kilometres as they seek to place their demands before the block administration and the Mayurbhanj District Collector. They are demanding a permanent solution to the problems they claim are affecting their lives at the residential institution.
The sight of hundreds of students walking along the main road with placards drew considerable attention in the area and created a stir among local residents.
Meanwhile, the administration has reportedly swung into action following the protest. Further details regarding the students’ specific demands and the steps being taken to resolve their grievances are awaited.
