BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the inspiring work of Odisha’s Maithili Bhue during the 137th episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, bringing national attention to her efforts in forest conservation, eco-tourism and women’s empowerment.

Maithili Bhue, a resident of Dhodrokusum village, has been associated with conservation activities in and around the Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha. Her journey from depending on forest resources for livelihood to becoming an active participant in conservation has emerged as an example of how environmental protection and economic development can work together.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi appreciated the contribution of people working at the grassroots level to protect India’s forests and natural resources. Maithili’s story was presented as an example of community participation in conservation, particularly highlighting the role of women in creating sustainable livelihoods.

Modi also referred to historical contributions of women from Odisha, including Tribhuvan Mahadevi, an influential ruler of the Bhaumakara dynasty.
