KMC seals two hotels in CDA Sector-6 over alleged adulterated, stale food
Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: The Kataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Tuesday sealed two hotels in the Sector-6 CDA area following inspections that allegedly uncovered stale food, expired dairy products and suspected adulteration, besides serious lapses in hygiene and sanitation.
The action was taken during a special inspection drive aimed at checking food quality and ensuring compliance with prescribed health and hygiene standards at hotels and eateries.
According to KMC officials, teams conducting the raid seized stale food, expired curd and suspected adulterated paneer from the two establishments. The inspection also reportedly revealed poorly maintained kitchen areas and unhygienic conditions.
Officials further found a substantial quantity of food items stored inside refrigerators. They also observed that vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were allegedly being stored together, raising concerns over food safety and the possibility of cross-contamination.
A KMC health official said the overall sanitation conditions at both hotels were unsatisfactory and the food quality did not meet the required standards.
The paneer recovered during the inspection was also subjected to a preliminary test. According to another KMC official, an iodine solution test was conducted on the paneer, which reportedly turned black, raising suspicion of adulteration.
Following the findings, the civic body sealed both hotels and seized the suspected food items for further examination and necessary action.
KMC officials said such inspections would continue to ensure that food establishments maintain proper hygiene and serve safe and quality food to consumers.
