IMD issues orange warning for four Odisha districts, heavy rain likely tomorrow
Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Warning for four districts of Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places tomorrow.
According to the latest forecast, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places. A Yellow Warning has also been issued for Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh and Balangir districts, where heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations.
The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 30-40 kmph at one or two places across these districts. The weather office has predicted no significant weather activity on August 20, 21 and 22. However, Yellow Warnings have been issued for several districts for August 23, 24 and 25.
On August 23, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph may occur in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagarh. For August 24 and 25, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Meanwhile, the depression over Jharkhand and adjoining northern Gangetic West Bengal moved west-northwestwards at around 10 kmph and lay centred over the same region at 8:30 am. The system is expected to continue moving in the same direction across Jharkhand and Bihar and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 24 hours.
