IMD issues red warning for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj; heavy rain forecast across Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Warning for Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj for tomorrow, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Residents in the two districts have been advised to take necessary precautions.
An Orange Warning has been issued for Balasore, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few places.
The IMD has also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places over these districts, including Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
A Yellow Warning has been issued for Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Subarnapur and Boudh for heavy rainfall at isolated places. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also likely.
For August 19, an Orange Warning is in force for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh, while Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Subarnapur and Balangir are under Yellow Warning.
On August 20, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely in Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
The IMD has forecast similar thunderstorm activity on August 21 across several coastal and northern districts. For August 22, Yellow Warnings have been issued for heavy rainfall in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds across several districts.
Authorities have advised people to remain alert and closely monitor weather updates.
