Bhubaneswar, June 30: In a sensational breakthrough, Commissionerate Police have arrested two minor school students for the brutal double murder of a father and son at Kolathia under Khandagiri police station limits in Bhubaneswar. The accused, studying in Class 10 and Class 12, were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday.

According to the Commissioner of Police, the juveniles had no previous criminal record but allegedly planned the attack in advance. The victims have been identified as 20-year-old Krushna Chandra Padhi, a second-year B.Sc student, and his father, Himanshu Padhi (54), a temple priest. Krushna's sister, Tapasi Padhi, sustained critical injuries and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Police said the incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Monday when the masked assailants scaled the boundary wall of the family's rented house near National Highway-16. They allegedly dragged Krushna outside and repeatedly attacked him with iron rods. When his father and sister tried to intervene, they too were assaulted. The attackers also reportedly used chilli powder to overpower the victims.

Investigators suspect the murders were triggered by a year-old dispute linked to a love affair. One accused allegedly blamed Krushna for harassing her classmate, leading to a carefully planned revenge attack.

Police cracked the case using CCTV footage and scientific evidence recovered from the scene. Iron rods believed to have been used in the crime have also been seized. While Krushna died on Monday, his father succumbed to injuries on Tuesday. Khandagiri police are continuing the investigation, while both accused have been remanded to juvenile custody in accordance with the law.
