Swift police action in Sundargarh: Three arrested within hours of horrific gang rape
Bhubaneswar, June 17: In a rapid and coordinated operation, the Dharuadihi police arrested three men on Tuesday night for the alleged gang rape of a 17-year-old girl in Talsara village, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The assault occurred on June 16, 2026, at approximately 3:30 pm. The minor was returning home after bathing in a nearby river when the three accused—aged 23, 24, and 25—waylaid her. They dragged her to a secluded spot, subjecting her to a brutal assault that left her unconscious and bleeding profusely. Upon regaining consciousness, the victim managed to reach home and narrate the harrowing ordeal to her family.
Accompanied by her mother, the critical victim reached the Dharuadihi Police Station around 7:00 pm to lodge a formal complaint. Recognizing the gravity of the crime, Sundargarh Superintendent of Police Amritpal Kaur immediately took charge. SP Kaur personally met the survivor, inspected the crime scene, and deployed multiple specialized teams.
"A coordinated search was launched immediately under the direct supervision of the SDPO, utilizing personnel from Dharuadihi and neighboring stations," an official stated.
By 9:30 pm—barely two-and-a-half hours after the complaint was made—all three suspects were successfully apprehended. A formal FIR (Case No. 125) was registered by 11:36 pm.
The accused remain in custody and are undergoing rigorous interrogation. Meanwhile, police teams are actively collecting vital forensic evidence and corroborative materials to ensure a airtight judicial case. The teenage survivor is currently receiving comprehensive medical treatment alongside professional psychological counseling to help her process the severe trauma.
