Bahanaga train tragedy: Kolkata based company initiates debris clearance

Balasore, Oct 28: A Kolkata-based company called Mohit Steels has commenced the process of clearing the wreckage of the Bahanaga triple train accident, which occurred five months ago. This company secured the auction to remove the debris from the accident site.
Reportedly, around 50 workers are currently involved in this endeavor. They are employing gas cutters to dismantle the mangled coaches and engines.
Following a court order in Bhubaneswar, the auction of the damaged coaches of the Shalimar-bound Coromandel Express, which were involved in the tragic accident near Bahanaga station in Odisha's Balasore district, has taken place. The Railways successfully auctioned the 21 damaged coaches for approximately Rs 3.8 crore. The 2nd Additional Sessions Judge's court in Bhubaneswar ordered the auction of these 21 mangled coaches, including an engine. The petitioner's advocate argued that leaving the debris at the accident site was impractical, as it was obstructing necessary repairs to the railway track and the construction of the third line.
It's important to note that the incident occurred on June 2, resulting in a major accident near the Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha's Balasore district. The accident involved the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express, Howrah-bound SMVP-Howrah Superfast Express, and a freight train. Regrettably, the accident claimed the lives of approximately 290 individuals. The debris couldn't be cleared earlier due to an ongoing CBI investigation into the triple train tragedy.
