Two arrested for alleged sexual assault of job-seeking woman at beauty parlour in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Jun 10: Commissionerate Police have arrested two persons, including the owner of a beauty parlour, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 25-year-old woman on the pretext of offering her a massage and promising employment at a beauty parlour in Jagamara under Khandagiri police limits.
The accused have been identified as Rabindra Mohanty (50), a resident of Kolathia under Bharatpur police limits, and Santosh Kumar Barik (52), a resident of Ragadipada village in Cuttack district.
According to police sources, the woman had completed professional training in beauty and cosmetology and was actively searching for a job in Bhubaneswar. She had informed her acquaintances about her employment requirements and was reportedly referred to a unisex beauty parlour in Jagamara after being told that vacancies were available.
During her visit, the parlour owner allegedly assured her of a job with an attractive salary package. Trusting the offer, the woman returned to the establishment a few days later for further discussions regarding employment.
However, the woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted inside the parlour by the owner and one of his employees. Following the incident, she approached Khandagiri Police Station on Sunday night and lodged a formal complaint.
Based on her complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation. A police team, accompanied by a scientific investigation unit, inspected the parlour and collected evidence from the premises.
Officials said CCTV footage from the establishment was examined and several objectionable materials were seized during the investigation. Both accused were subsequently arrested and produced before the court.
Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the case and gather additional evidence.
