Bhubaneswar, June 9: The sudden and unexplained death of a second-year student of Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya has left her family, friends and fellow students grief-stricken, with authorities awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The deceased, identified as Sangramika Panda, was pursuing her studies at the Ayurveda college and residing with her parents in a rented house near Jhadeswari Temple in Puri.
According to family members, Sangramika spent Saturday night completing practical record books and other academic assignments. On Sunday morning, she reportedly woke up around 9 a.m., had breakfast and spoke with her mother before returning to her room to rest.
Concern arose later in the day when she failed to respond to repeated calls from family members for lunch. Alarmed by her silence, her parents rushed to check on her and subsequently took her to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The tragic news sent shockwaves through the campus of Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, where students and faculty members expressed deep sorrow over the unexpected loss of a young student.
Soumyajit Patra, a fifth-year student and close friend of Sangramika, said the college community was struggling to come to terms with the incident. He noted that everyone was eagerly awaiting the post-mortem findings to understand what led to her untimely death.
In a moving display of solidarity, fellow students stood by the bereaved family during the final rites. After the post-mortem examination, Sangramika’s mortal remains were taken to Swargadwar Crematorium, where her classmates joined the funeral procession and helped carry her bier, paying an emotional farewell to their friend.
