Bhubaneswar, May 27: Odisha has been selected to host the prestigious Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2027, further cementing the state’s growing reputation as a major destination for international sporting events.
The decision was taken during the meeting of the Asian Athletics Council held in Hong Kong on Tuesday. Alongside Odisha’s selection for the continental championship, Chandigarh was chosen to host the Asian Relays in 2028.
Welcoming the announcement, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated Indian athletics authorities and expressed pride over the state being awarded another major international sporting event.
Describing it as a proud moment for both India and Odisha, the Chief Minister said the decision reflects the state’s growing stature in the global sports arena. He added that Odisha has consistently demonstrated its capability to successfully organise world-class sporting events and provide top-quality infrastructure for athletes and spectators.
“With this achievement, Odisha has further strengthened its position as a preferred destination for international sporting events. It is another feather in the state’s cap in the field of global sports,” Majhi said.
The championship is expected to be hosted at the world-class Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, which has already gained international recognition for hosting several major sporting events.
