NISER PhD student found dead in hostel room at Jatni
Bhubaneswar, May 25: A first-year PhD student of the National Institute of Science Education and Research was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her hostel room on Monday, triggering shock and concern among students and faculty members.
The deceased was identified as Shreya Singh, a resident of Uttar Pradesh who was pursuing her doctoral studies at the premier research institute located in Jatni of Khordha district.
According to preliminary information, fellow students became concerned after Shreya did not respond for a long time. When they checked her room, they reportedly found her lying unconscious on the bed. The matter was immediately brought to the notice of hostel authorities and institute officials.
On receiving information, police personnel rushed to the hostel and recovered the body. Officials later sent the body to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Investigators said all possible angles, including the possibility of an unnatural death, are being examined as part of the probe.
The sudden death of the young research scholar has cast a pall of gloom on the campus. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
