Engineering student allegedly gang-raped in Bhubaneswar; four arrested
Bhubaneswar, May 13: A private engineering college student was allegedly gang-raped by her boyfriend and three of his friends at a private mess in the Kaimatia area under Info Valley police station limits in Bhubaneswar, police said on Tuesday. All four accused have been arrested, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The accused have been identified as Sipun Behera, Ranjan Behera, Shubhankar Padhi, and Ratikant. According to police sources, the incident allegedly took place after the student was called to her boyfriend’s room at the private mess.
Following the alleged assault, the survivor approached the Info Valley police station and lodged a formal complaint against the accused persons. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police detained the four accused for questioning and later placed them under arrest.
Senior police officials said the accused are being interrogated to establish the exact sequence of events and gather further details related to the case. A scientific team along with Commissionerate Police officials also visited the spot to collect evidence and conduct a detailed examination of the crime scene.
Police have assured that a thorough investigation is being carried out and all aspects of the case are being examined carefully.
The incident has triggered concern in the city and raised fresh questions regarding the safety and security of students staying in private accommodations around educational institutions in Bhubaneswar. Further investigation into the matter is in progress.
