Ten CPI (Maoist) cadres surrender before Kandhamal Police, join mainstream
Bhubaneswar, Mar 11: In a significant development in the fight against Left-wing extremism, ten underground cadres of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) surrendered before the Odisha Police in Kandhamal district, renouncing violence and choosing to return to the mainstream of society.
During the surrender ceremony, the cadres laid down arms, ammunition, and other materials, formally severing all links with extremist activities. They also expressed faith in the democratic system and stated their willingness to rebuild their lives through peaceful means.
The surrendered cadres were identified as Sanu Pottam alias Nitu, a State Committee Member of the KKBN Division; Santaei Salam alias Anupa, a Divisional Committee Member; Laxmi Madvi alias Sangita and Sunil Telam, both Area Committee Members; along with party members Manjula Punem alias Silpa, Rambati Oyam alias Jamuna, Ganesh Kunjam, Susila Dudi, Sarita Kuhudam, and Chodi Yogi alias Rajni.
The surrender took place during a programme held at the Reserve Police Ground in Phulbani. Senior officials present included Sanjeeb Panda, Additional Director General of Police (Anti-Naxal Operations), Akhileshvar Singh, Neeti Shekhar, Deepak Kumar, Amitendranath Sinha, Dilip Singh and Harisha B.C..
Police officials said the surrender reflects the success of sustained anti-Maoist operations and rehabilitation efforts in the region.
