Youth critically injured in sword attack after Khandagiri Jatra in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Jan 31: A youth sustained severe injuries after allegedly being attacked by miscreants with a sword while returning home from the Khandagiri Jatra in the early hours of Saturday. The incident has triggered panic among locals and raised concerns over security during festive gatherings.
The victim has been identified as Chintu, a resident of Patrapada area on the outskirts of the city. According to reports, Chintu was on his way back home from the popular Khandagiri Jatra when a group of unidentified assailants chased him on the AIIMS Bhubaneswar Road. Moments later, they allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon, leaving him critically injured on the roadside.
Passersby noticed Chintu lying in a pool of blood and immediately alerted emergency services. He was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where doctors said his condition remains critical. The incident occurred during the wee hours, when traffic movement was minimal, adding to the victim’s vulnerability.
Following the attack, police launched a detailed investigation. Teams are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify and track down the attackers. Initial findings suggest the assault may have been triggered by past enmity, though the exact motive is yet to be confirmed. Further investigation is underway.
