Five-year-old suffers severe burns after falling into hot porridge in Bhubaneswar outskirts
Bhubaneswar, Jan 30: A tragic domestic accident left a five-year-old boy with severe burn injuries after he accidentally fell into a pot of hot rice porridge at his residence in Aitalang village under Balipatna police station, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, on Friday morning.
The injured child has been identified as the son of Mantu Bhoi. He reportedly sustained serious burns on his back, shoulders, abdomen, hands, and several other parts of his body. Medical sources said the burns cover nearly 40 per cent of his body surface, making his condition critical.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred when the child suddenly ran towards his mother, who was in the process of pouring freshly cooked rice porridge. In a moment of panic and confusion, the child lost balance and accidentally fell into the vessel containing the scalding food.
Family members immediately rushed the child to the Balipatna Community Health Centre for emergency care. Considering the seriousness of the injuries, doctors referred him to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment.
Local residents described the incident as deeply distressing and urged families to take extra precautions while handling hot food, especially in households with young children. Police said no foul play is suspected and termed the incident a tragic accident.
