Jatra troupe members injured as truck overturns in Jajpur
Bhubaneswar, Jan 29: At least four members of a jatra party sustained severe injuries after the truck carrying them overturned near Goleipur in Jajpur district on Thursday, causing panic among locals and disrupting traffic movement in the area. The injured included jatra artistes as well as the driver of the vehicle.
According to reports, the accident occurred on the Korei road when the driver allegedly lost control of the truck, leading it to veer off the road and overturn on the roadside. The impact left several passengers trapped inside the vehicle, prompting nearby residents to rush to the spot and help in rescue efforts. Passers-by also alerted the police and emergency services.
The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment, where doctors said their condition was serious but stable. The jatra troupe, named Natya Mandap and owned by Rani Panda, had recently performed at a programme in Jajpur and was on its way to another destination for a scheduled show when the mishap took place.
Police reached the spot soon after being informed and launched an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to remove the damaged vehicle and clear the road to restore normal traffic.
