Cold wave intensifies across Odisha, Jharsuguda records season’s lowest temperature
Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: The cold wave continues to tighten its grip over Odisha, with Jharsuguda emerging as the coldest place in the state on Thursday. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the industrial town recorded a minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius at 5:30 am, marking the lowest temperature of the season so far.
Several other districts also witnessed a sharp drop in mercury levels. Keonjhar recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius, while Chandbali registered 12.2 degrees Celsius. The state capital Bhubaneswar and coastal town Paradip both reported identical minimum temperatures of 12.4 degrees Celsius in the early morning hours.
Weather experts pointed out that Jharsuguda has experienced a drastic fall in temperature over the past few days. The minimum temperature there was 11.6 degrees Celsius on January 11, which has now plunged to 6.8 degrees, breaking previous records and intensifying the winter chill.
In view of the prevailing conditions, the regional meteorological centre has advised residents to take precautions and keep themselves warm. The IMD has predicted that cold wave conditions are likely to persist across Odisha for the next few days, with temperatures expected to remain low, especially during night and early morning hours.
