Former Pipili MLA Judhistir Samantaray passes away at 73

Puri, Oct 16: Former MLA Judhistir Samantaray, who represented the Pipili assembly constituency in Puri district, passed away on Monday while receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 73 years old.
His younger brother, Dhirendra Samantaray, confirmed the news of his demise. Judhistir Samantaray had served as the legislator for Pipili from 1995 to 2000.
Reports indicate that Samantaray had been unwell for an extended period and was initially receiving treatment at his residence. However, as his condition deteriorated, he was subsequently moved to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Notably, Judhistir Samantaray was a prominent member of the Indian National Congress and was affectionately known as Kedar Samantaray. He also held the position of chairman of the Pipili block from 1984 to 1990.
Throughout his career, he had been a significant rival of the late Pradeep Maharathy, an MLA with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). In 1986, Samantaray was reportedly attacked by individuals associated with Maharathy, an incident in which he narrowly escaped with his life but lost his left eye.
