Fourth accused arrested in Dhauli gang-rape case, police hunt for fifth suspect continues
Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: The Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested the fourth accused in the infamous Dhauli gang-rape case from the Badagada area of Bhubaneswar. The arrested person has been identified as Sagar Jena. With his arrest, the total number of accused taken into custody has risen to four, while police continue their search for the fifth suspect who is still absconding.
The horrific incident, which took place on December 10, had triggered widespread outrage across the capital city, with citizens demanding swift justice and strict action against the culprits. According to police sources, the victim and her male friend had gone to the Dhauli area when they were intercepted by two miscreants. They allegedly demanded money from the duo.
When the boy refused to comply, the attackers dragged him to a secluded spot and assaulted him with sharp weapons and stones. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused then gang-raped the young woman. Shockingly, they also recorded the crime on their mobile phones and threatened the victim with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident.
The case came to light after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at the Dhauli police station, prompting an intensive investigation.
