Horror in Rayagada: Differently-abled minor allegedly gang-raped, three detained

Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: A disturbing incident of sexual violence has shaken the Gudari area of Rayagada district, where a differently-abled minor girl was allegedly gang-raped on Monday afternoon. The crime has sparked widespread shock and outrage in the region. Prompt intervention by local residents and swift police action led to the detention of three suspects, while efforts are continuing to trace others involved in the incident.

According to sources, the survivor, a resident of Naira village, had gone to a nearby forest to collect firewood. While returning home, she was reportedly intercepted by three youths. The accused allegedly dragged her to a secluded spot in the jungle and committed the crime.

Despite the severe trauma, the minor later narrated the incident to her parents. Acting without delay, the family, accompanied by the village sarpanch, approached the Gudari police station and lodged a formal complaint.

Police immediately registered a case and launched an investigation. Based on preliminary findings, three suspects were detained and are currently in police custody for questioning. Official sources said raids are underway to identify and apprehend any remaining accused.

The incident has cast a pall of fear and anger over the local community and once again raised serious concerns about the safety and security of vulnerable sections of society, particularly women, children and differently-abled persons in remote areas.
