CBI begins four-day interrogation of key accused in police SI exam scam
Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday began the interrogation of three key accused, including alleged mastermind Sankar Prusty, in connection with the Police Sub-Inspector (SI) examination scandal. The accused, who are currently lodged in Jharpada Jail in Bhubaneswar, were produced before a special CBI court, which granted the agency a four-day remand for detailed questioning.
The case pertains to irregularities in the Police SI recruitment examination, which came to light on September 29 when police intercepted three buses carrying job aspirants to Visakhapatnam for the exam. The candidates were allegedly being transported with the intention of helping them appear in the examination using unfair means. Following the interception, the examinees were brought to Berhampur and produced before a local court along with three agents.
Investigations later revealed the involvement of an organised racket operating across districts. While 114 examinees arrested in the case have since been released on bail, the focus of the probe has shifted to the agents who allegedly facilitated the malpractice.
As many as 12 agents, including Sankar Prusty, continue to remain in judicial custody at Jharpada Jail. The CBI is expected to question the accused on the wider network, financial transactions, and possible involvement of other individuals.
