Bhubaneswar, Nov 26: In a heart-wrenching incident, a wedding celebration in Balangir district turned tragic when the groom’s father lost his life after being hit by a car during the procession. The incident took place on Wednesday in Mandal village under the Belpada police limits.

The deceased has been identified as Chaitanya Bagh (55). As per reports, the groom, dressed in his wedding attire, was travelling in a vehicle as part of the procession moving from Ambapali village to Mandal. During the journey, the car carrying the groom accidentally ran over his father, who was walking with the procession. The impact was severe, and Chaitanya Bagh died on the spot.

Upon receiving information, Belpada police immediately reached the location. They inspected the area, seized the vehicle involved, and initiated a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the mishap. The body was later sent to Patnagarh Community Health Centre (CHC) for post-mortem.

Despite the shocking accident, sources said the wedding ceremony was completed later in the day, though the joy of the occasion was overshadowed by the tragic loss. The incident has left the local community deeply saddened.
