20 injured as night bus falls off bridge in Subarnapur’s Singhijuba village
Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: At least 20 passengers were severely injured after a night bus travelling from Subarnapur to Bhubaneswar met with a major accident near Singhijuba village under Binika police station limits in Subarnapur district. The mishap occurred late on Monday night and caused panic among commuters and residents in the area.
According to initial reports, the bus was travelling at high speed when the driver allegedly lost control, causing the vehicle to skid off the road and plunge from a small bridge. The impact left several passengers trapped inside the damaged bus. Hearing the cries for help, local villagers rushed to the spot and immediately began rescuing the injured, providing first aid and arranging transport for those in critical condition.
Fire brigade personnel reached the accident site shortly afterward and carried out a systematic rescue operation, helping pull out the remaining trapped passengers safely. Many locals expressed deep dissatisfaction over what they described as negligent and reckless driving by the bus driver, which is believed to have caused the accident.
All the injured passengers have been shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, Binika police have launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident and determine responsibility.
