Depression over Andaman Sea likely to intensify into cyclone ‘Senyar’ by November 27
Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: A well-marked low-pressure area lying over the Strait of Malacca and the adjoining south Andaman Sea has strengthened into a depression and is projected to intensify further into a cyclonic storm over the South Bay of Bengal by November 27, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather system has been steadily gaining strength over the past 24 hours as it moves west-northwestward.
Under its influence, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on November 28. Authorities in the island region have been advised to stay alert for possible disruptions. However, the IMD has clarified that the developing cyclone poses no threat to Odisha. No watches or warnings have been issued for the state, and the system is not expected to have any significant impact on its weather conditions.
Once the system intensifies into a cyclonic storm, it will be officially named Cyclone ‘Senyar’, following the naming conventions adopted by countries in the region. The IMD has also stated that fishermen along the Odisha coast can continue their activities safely, as no adverse conditions are expected over the next five days.
