Two sisters injured in crude bomb explosion in Khordha’s Jayantipur village
Bhubaneswar, Nov 25: In a shocking incident, two young sisters from Jayantipur village under Chilika block in Khordha district were severely injured after a crude bomb—suspected to be used for hunting—accidentally exploded on Monday. The victims, identified as 8-year-old Rajalakhmi Behera and her 14-year-old sister Rajeswari Behera, had unknowingly brought the explosive home after discovering it in a nearby forest.
According to local reports, the children mistook the crude bomb for an innocuous object while collecting items from the forest. While playing near their house, the device suddenly went off, causing serious injuries to both. Rajalakhmi’s hand was critically damaged in the blast, while Rajeswari suffered severe burns on her face. The sisters were immediately rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The incident has triggered widespread anger in the area, with villagers demanding a thorough investigation and the arrest of the person who allegedly planted the bomb for hunting purposes. Residents fear such illegal and dangerous practices pose a serious threat to innocent lives, especially children, and have urged authorities to take swift action to prevent similar mishaps in the future.
