India’s leading steel-producing state, Odisha, to showcase India’s potential to Global Investors during Bharat Steel 2026

Bhubaneshwar, November 2025 :True to its role as an enabler and facilitator, The Ministry of Steel, Government of India, will be organising Bharat Steel, a global steel summit in New Delhi on 16-17 April 2026. The two-day flagship event will serve as a vital strategic platform bringing together leading steel producers from India and the world, policymakers from leading steel-producing states of India and Union Ministry, buyers, infrastructure developers, investors, and captains from allied industries and financial institutions. The summit will showcase the nation’s steel corridor capabilities, promote green and sustainable steelmaking and mining, digitalization and decarbonization shaping the future of steel, and explore opportunities across the domestic and international markets at a time when global trade and tariffs have shifted policy priorities.

The summit will act as a strategic platform for global investors to explore potential for investment and collaboration in developing world-class steel projects in leading steel-producing states, including Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. Important Industry Associations and PSUs, including SAIL, NMDC, MSTC, along with private sectors, will showcase the future of steel to global stakeholders.

“At the Bharat Steel event, stakeholders and policymakers will deliberate upon Industry’s future course of action in sync with the rapidly shifting global steel demand towards cleaner, more innovative materials. It will be an important industry gathering to discuss the critical aspects of the global steel supply chain, including impact of tariffs, trade policies, technology disruptions, raw material security, and logistics infrastructure,” said Mr Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, Govt of India.

As India's economy grows, the sector’s importance in building modern infrastructure and manufacturing, and energising exports, will become even more critical. The steel sector, contributing around 2% to GDP, will continue to play a pivotal role as India strives to become a $5 trillion economy.

Recognising the sector’s potential and importance, the government is continually striving to increase India’s steel production capacity to take it to 300 million tonnes per annum by 2030, and further to 500 million tonnes per annum by 2047. In sync with the targets, the government is making all efforts to ensure a steady supply of affordable raw materials for the industry, equipping it to produce green, import-substitute products, and handhold small players in their decarbonisation drive. Notably, the government stands as India’s largest steel consumer.

The timing of the event could not have been better. India currently shines the brightest in the world of steel, clocking double-digit production growth—the only country to achieve the feat among the Top 10 producing nations. Exciting time is on the cards for the Indian steel industry, as consumption is projected to grow by around 9% in both 2025 and 2026, the highest in the world, according to the World Steel Association (WSA).
