Four accused taken into two-day remand in Pitabash Panda murder case
Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: In a major development in the Pitabash Panda murder case, police have taken four accused—Uma, Chintu, Kurupati, and Yogendra—into two-day remand for intensive questioning. Investigators plan to conduct face-to-face interrogations among the accused to uncover crucial details and establish the sequence of events that led to the murder.
The custodial interrogation follows the completion of a Test Identification (TI) parade, conducted in two phases, involving five witnesses. The TI parade report, received on Thursday, has been submitted to the SDJM court. Of the eight accused presented, only two individuals—Kurupati Bhuyan and Chintu Pradhan—were positively identified by the witnesses.
In the first phase of the TI parade held at Berhampur Circle Jail, two witnesses attempted to identify five accused: Shishupal Kumar Pashtan, Simanchal Nayak, Kundan Kumar, Bipin Swain, and Uma Shankar Bisoi. However, none of them were identified.
During the second phase, the witnesses were able to identify Chintu Pradhan and Kurupati Bhuyan, strengthening the case against them.
Police are now focusing on the custodial interrogation phase, hoping it will reveal key links and help bring clarity to the murder investigation.
