IMD issues cold wave alert for three Odisha districts as temperatures set to plunge
Bhubaneswar, Nov 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cold wave alert for three districts in Odisha—Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, and Sundargarh—warning residents to brace for a sharp drop in temperatures on November 12 and 13. According to the IMD, cold wave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of these districts, as the mercury is expected to fall further due to dry and cold northwesterly winds.
Officials have advised people, especially the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses, to take adequate precautions to stay warm and prevent seasonal ailments. The IMD has predicted that minimum temperatures across several parts of the state may decrease by an additional 2–3°C over the next two to three days, potentially intensifying the cold wave situation.
The alert comes amid a noticeable dip in winter temperatures, with many regions already recording values below 15°C. Morning fog has also been reported in several places, reducing visibility and causing disruptions to early commuters. As Odisha prepares for harsher winter conditions, local administrations are expected to monitor the situation closely and provide necessary support to vulnerable communities.
